MSRI Biology Colloquium Lecture at 4pm by Robert Schleif March 21, 2007 All Day
Parent Program: --
Description BIOLOGY FOR MATHEMATICIANS: Robert Schleif speaks on "Information Storage and Retrieval Functions of DNA" at 4:00 pm in the Simons Auditorium, preceded by a reception from 3:15 pm to 4 pm in the Chern Hall Atrium on Wednesday, March 21, 2007.

Dr. Schleif's lecture abstract: The linear sequence of four nucleotides in DNA stores almost all of the information that cells and organisms require for growth and division. How did the information get there, how is it organized, how is it preserved and passed on to successive generations, and how it is read out when needed? The talk will mix descriptions of some of the problems and several of Nature’s elegant solutions with descriptions of one or two of molecular biologist’s equally elegant experiments that have elucidated aspects of the questions and answers.
