About Trois Bois
The wind trio, Trois Bois, performs the vast catalogue of music for winds from the 18th century to the present day, and specializes in the rich oboe, clarinet and bassoon repertoire of the 20th century. Trois Bois officially began in 2009, although the artists had previously collaborated in many concerts over the past decade. The popular response from these concerts have led to the creation of the ensemble, Trois Bois, whose mission is to share a love of music for winds with others through concerts in venues both standard and new. Adding guest artists will be a regular feature of their concerts and will create a variety of musical offerings that will keep audiences engaged throughout each program.
About David Granger
David Granger received his Bachelor of Music in 1973 and his Master of Music in 1975 from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Mr. Granger was principal bassoonist of the Sacramento Symphony from 1981 until 1996. In 1983 he began teaching at the University of California, Davis, and was coordinator of the music department's student chamber music program from 1985 to 2011. Mr. Granger works as a freelance musician performing in orchestras throughout northern California. He currently holds positions as principal bassoonist of the Sacramento Philharmonic, Modesto and Fremont Symphonies, and is a member of the Oakland East Bay and the Marin Symphonies. He joined the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley, in 2000. Mr. Granger attended Indiana University's Early Music Institute and received a Performer Diploma in baroque bassoon in 2004.
About Laura Reynolds
Laura Reynolds has been an active chamber and orchestral performer in Northern California for over 20 years. She is principal oboist with the California Symphony and a member of the Santa Rosa and Marin Symphonies, and has appeared as soloist with all three organizations. Ms. Reynolds performs regularly with a number of other regional orchestras and has also appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, the Carmel Bach Festival and the Virginia Symphony. She is a member of the applied music faculty at UC Davis and the San Francisco Conservatory’s Pre-College and Adult Extension Divisions. A chamber music enthusiast, she was a founding member of Citywinds, a San Francisco based woodwind quintet dedicated to contemporary repertoire. A student of Harry Sargous and William Bennett, Ms. Reynolds holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (M.M.) and the University of Michigan (B.M.).
About Patricia Shands
Clarinetist Patricia Shands has appeared to popular and critical acclaim throughout the United States, South America, and Europe. Her performances have been praised by the critics of The New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Il Giornale (Milan), Fanfare, and The American Record Guide. In 1994, she was a featured soloist for composer Luciano Berio’s presentation of the Charles Eliot Norton Lectures at Harvard University. A prizewinner in the Concert Artists Guild Competition and a recipient of the prestigious John Knowles Paine Award, Ms. Shands is an active chamber music performer. Her appearances at the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival led to critically acclaimed recordings of works by Bartók, Dahl, and Guastavino and she recently performed with the Kodály and Stamic Quartets on their American tours. Ms. Shands performs regularly with the Chamber Music Society of Sacramento and the Pacific Arts Woodwind Quintet. Her recorded works are featured on the Centaur, Albany, Onossa, and Round Top labels and her recording of the Dahl Concerto a tre is distributed to international radio stations by the Art of the States. Ms. Shands has also been featured on NBC’s Today Show, National Public Radio’s Performance Today, and regional live broadcasts around the country. She teaches clarinet and chamber music at the Conservatory of Music, University of the Pacific.
