SLMath (MSRI) Special Sessions on Metric Geometry and Topology (I and II)
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Session I) and 1:00-5:00 p.m. (Session II)
Room 611, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike
These special sessions will focus on the relationship between global metric geometry and topology, including methods of Riemannian geometry as well as Alexandrov geometry and other singular geometric spaces. We expect the variety of intersecting interests will stimulate discussion and promotecross-fertilization of ideas.

★ Mathematical Institutes Open House
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Metropolitan Ballroom A, Sheraton Grand Seattle
No RSVP required
SLMath (MSRI) Special Sessions on MSRI-UP 2024 Mathematical Endocrinology (I and II)
9:00-11:00am (Session I) and 1:00-5:00 p.m. (Session II)
Room 611, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike
Endocrinology is broadly defined as the study of hormones and the glands and organs that produce them. The 2024 MSRI-UP research program focused on the analysis and development of mathematical models of various components of the endocrine system, under both physiological and pathological circumstances. A variety of mathematical/computational tools were used to examine research topics ranging from diabetes and metabolism to ovulatory function. This session will include results from this REU.

★ SLMath (MSRI) Reception for Current and Future Donors
6:00-7:30 p.m.
Issaquah Room, Sheraton Grand Seattle
No RSVP required
SLMath (MSRI) Special Sessions on ADJOINT Mathematics Working Groups (I and II)
8:00 a.m. - 12:00pm (Session I) and 1:00-3:30 p.m. (Session II)
Room 611, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike
The ADJOINT Mathematics Workshop is a yearlong program that provides opportunities for U.S. mathematicians -- especially those from the African Diaspora -- to form collaborations with distinguished African-American research leaders on topics at the forefront of mathematical and statistical research.
SLMath (MSRI) Panel - ADJOINT: The First Five Years
3:30-5:00pm
Room 611, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike
The ADJOINT program provides opportunities for U.S. mathematicians, especially those from the African Diaspora, to form collaborations with African-American research leaders on topics at the forefront of mathematical and statistical research. ADJOINT began as a pilot in Summer 2019, and has continued every summer. This panel will focus on the first five years of ADJOINT and the future of our efforts to foster a community of African-Americans in the mathematical and statistical sciences.

★ Film World Premiere of Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Creating Pathways
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Room 4C-3, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike (View directions)
Free and open to the public (JMM 2025 registration not required)
Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Creating Pathways (2025) portrays Black mathematicians who have become leaders in education and research over the last 50 years, overcoming prejudice and segregation. Concentrating on mathematicians who attended predominantly White institutions, we follow their quests for beauty and meaning in math. As these scholars become mentors and role models for the next generation searching for ways to shape new kinds of mathematics, the film introduces several programs aimed at increasing the number of African Americans in the STEM fields.
This is the second of two films in the Journeys of Black Mathematicians series, preceded by Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Forging Resilience (2024), available for digital and DVD viewing. This film can be viewed as a standalone story, for those who have yet to see the first film. More information: http://www.jbmfilm.com.
SLMath (MSRI) Special Sessions at the Intersection of Harmonic Analysis and Fractal Geometry (I and II)
8:00-11:30am (Session I) and 1:00-6:00 p.m. (Session II)
Room 611, Seattle Convention Center Arch at 705 Pike
We explore emerging links in Harmonic Analysis and Geometric Measure Theory with applications to Ergodic Theory, Dynamical Systems, Number Theory, and Combinatorics. Different tools and fundamental questions exist in the communities but they unite around the following themes: Investigating finite point configurations; properties of projections; Combinatorial problems in fractal geometry (distance and direction sets, arithmetic progressions, Kakeya-type sets).
