Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Forging Resilience

AWM Purdue Chapter is proud to host a screening of Journeys of Black Mathematicians: Forging Resilience. We would like to thank Dr. Rodrigo Bañelos for helping to fund this event.

Where: MATH 175

When: February 29, 2024

Time: 6:15pm-7:30pm

Special Colloquium with Dr. Marissa Loving

AWM Purdue Chapter is excited to welcome Dr. Marissa Loving from University of Wisconsin for a special International Women's Day talk in Purdue's Math Colloquium.

Where: MATH 175

When: March 5, 2024

Time: 3:30pm

Title: From dimension 2 to 3 and back again

Abstract: In this talk I’ll begin by telling a little bit of Thurston’s beautiful story connecting the dynamics of finite-type surface homeomorphisms with the geometry of 3-manifolds. I will then share some more recent work of myself and others which connect the dynamics of infinite-type surface homeomorphisms with the geometry of 3-manifolds. My aim is for the talk to be accessible to a broad audience with many illustrations to help us build our intuition without getting too far into the technical weeds.

An Itinerary of Dr. Loving's visit will be emailed to relevant parties. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Loving, please email @awmpurduechapter@gmail.com.

Special Colloquium with Dr. Keisha Cook

AWM Purdue Chapter is excited to welcome Dr. Keisha Cook from Clemson University to give a talk in Purdue's Math Colloquium.

Where: MATH 175

When: March 26, 2024

Time: 3:30pm

Title: Stochastic Processes and Applications of Single Particle Tracking

Abstract:  Stochastic processes can be used in many applications across the sciences. Each application requires a unique model, which is designed to exemplify the behavior of the system of interest. In this talk, I will explore some of these applications in the areas of intracellular transport in live cells (biology and material science) and endosomal escape in cancer cells (bioengineering).

An itinerary of Dr. Cook's visit will be emailed to relevant parties. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Cook, please email @awmpurduechapter@gmail.com.
