In A Shorter Model Theory, Wilfrid Hodges proposed the slogan that model theory is algebraic geometry minus fields, but immediately notes that the most striking applications of model theory are proved via a study of the model theory of fields. On the other hand, algebraic and diophantine geometry has been the principal laboratory for the development of the logical side of model theory. In this talk, I will survey some of the interactions between the subjects including such topics as uniformity theorems from the compactness theorem, transfer theorems for motivic integral in connections with the Langland's program, descent theorems for algebraic dynamical systems, and the Pink-Zilber conjectures.
