Abstract: Via a Feynman Kacs path integral interpretation, the solution to the stochastic heat equation is identified with the partition function of a continuum polymer model. Hence we show that the KPZ solution corresponds with the exact formula for the free energy of this polymer model. This continuum polymer is the scaling limit of a wide class of discrete polymers and we will show how this scaling limit follows in a much more straight-forward way than for the corner growth model. We will also explain how using the replica trick and the Bethe ansatz for the attractive delta-Bose gas one can rederive these results (though rather non-rigorously).
