The canonical rings of curves and log stacky curves
Speaker: John Voight
3:45 PM
I'll explain the classical description of the canonical rings of curves, including an explicit Gr\"obner basis, due to Max Noether, Petri and Schreyer, and the recent generalization to log stacky curves.
Bott-Samelson varieties, subword complexes and brick polytopes
Speaker: Laura Escobar
5:00 PM
In this talk we will define three objects: Bott-Samelson varieties, subword complexes and brick polytopes. More importantly we will discuss how these objects are connected: the moment polytope of a fiber of the Bott-Samelson map is the Brick polytope. In particular, we give a nice description of the toric variety of the associahedron.
