I will define certain moduli spaces of smooth manifolds, and give several formulations of recent work, joint with Galatius, which identifies the homology of these spaces. I will explain how this may be viewed as a higher homology extension of a theorem of Kreck. I'll then explain some recent work, joint with Botvinnik and Ebert, which applies this to obtain homological and homotopical information about spaces of positive scalar curvature metrics.
