Abstract/Media

String topology started 15 years ago with the Chas-Sullivan product, a product defined on the homology of the free loop space of a manifold.

Their construction has since been generalized to large collections of operations on such loop spaces parametrized by the homology of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces, giving so-called homological conformal field theories.

The constructions use combinatorial models of the moduli space. In this pre-talk, I'll give an introduction to string topology and to these combinatorial models.
