The usual way of defining L-groups is as a semidirect product of a connected reductive group by some version of the Galois group. In this informal seminar, David Treumann will present an alternative definition, which is better suited for arithmetic purposes, and Wee Teck Gan will discuss the case of covers of algebraic groups, where the correct L-group does not have a canonical presentation as a semidirect product.
