Special Talk: this will be a Colloquium-style presentation, and should be widely accessible. There will be only one talk this week.
I will discuss a range of topics that are somewhat interdisciplinary, (although they all revolve around a "magic" polytope, the cube) and which reveal some exciting new connections between my three favorite fields. Specifically, I will discuss a problem of Thurston--Habegger on cubical complexes and its relation to geometric topology, algebra and combinatorics, applications of Gromov's CAT(1) theorem to linear programming, and how the cube is really something conformal, and how this helps to solve some very old problem of Legendre and Steinitz.
