Abstract/Media

Holomorphic quadratic differentials on a Riemann surface induce measured foliations and singular-flat metrics that have been useful in Teichmüller theory. I will talk on joint work with Mike Wolf parametrizing the space of meromorphic quadratic differentials with poles of higher order, whose induced metrics consist entirely of half-planes. This generalizes a theorem of Strebel concerning quadratic differentials with poles of order 2. The main tools we use are from the theory of infinite-energy harmonic maps to graphs.
