In this expository talk we will discuss the conjecture of Francois Labourie concerning the uniqueness of equivariant minimal surfaces for Hitchin representations. We will begin by indicating the story for SL(3,R) where the conjecture was proved independently by John Loftin and Francois Labourie. Next, we will develop the basic tools to state the general form of the conjecture and in the remaining time discuss various interesting consequences.
