A theorem of Edgar and Miller (formerly Ring Conjecture) asserts that a proper borelian subring of the real line has Hausdorff dimension 0. I will discuss an analog of this result for simple real Lie groups, namely that they have no dense borelian subgroup of intermediate Hausdorff dimension. Our approach to the problem is via the discretization procedure, developed by Bourgain.
