In his Thesis, Tholozan described a formula for the volume of a closed Anti de Sitter 3-manifold. As a consequence of this formula, the volume is (essentially) an integer. We will explain that one can recover the fact that this volume is an integer using the classical Chern—Simons theory.  Most of the talk will be devoted to a recap about Chern—Simons theory and its relation with gauge theory in 2, 3, and 4 dimensions.
