Abstract/Media

The moduli space M_{g,n} of Riemann surfaces with marked points comes equipped with a natural distance function, the Teichmueller metric. We will discuss the known subvarieties that are totally geodesic for this metric, including the unexpected, recently discovered example of a totally geodesic complex surface.  This is joint work with Ronen Mukamel and Alex Wright.
