Abstract/Media

This session is an invitation to tropical thinking, which ponders the degeneration of classical geometric shapes into polyhedral limits. Michael will explain this for convex polytopes. Tropicalization

takes a classical polytope over an ordered field with valution and creates a tropical polytope. What does this do to the face lattice? Bernd will open the session with a discussion of the history of tropical math, and will close it with thoughts about the future.
