Abstract/Media

In the equal mass N-body problem, the planar linear chains are special simple

choreography solutions, which look like a sequence of consecutive loops in a plane placed

along a straight line. In this talk we will explain how they can be found as collision-free

action minimizers under certain symmetric and topological constraints for the spatial

Newtonian N-body problem. Afterwards by considering the problem in rotating coor-

dinate frame with different angular velocities, we find families of simple choreography

solutions parameterized by the angular velocity, which starts from one planar linear

chain and ends at another. The solutions in these families may contain collision, but all

possible collisions must be binary and are C0 block-regularizable.
