The water wave equations describe the motion of the interface between a fluid (water) and air. The aim of this talk is to give an overview of microlocal ideas and methods which arise in the study of the low regularity well-posedness problem for water waves, including the most recent results, which are joint work with Albert Ai and Mihaela Ifrim.
