Valuation theory plays a major part in the interaction between number theory and logic. In this seminar, a variety of topics from valuation theory, and in particular connections to model theory, will be discussed. There will be a strong emphasis on results involving the definability of valuations.

Definability Of Valuations And Applications
Valuations are an essential tool in arithmetic algebraic geometry and algebraic geometry, e.g. studying solvability and/or decidability of diophantine problems, questions about birational invariants of algebraic varieties, etc. In this
introductory talk I will touch upon two aspects of definability of valuations, namely the first order definability, respectively the Galois theoretical definability, and mention some applications.
