I will give a brief introduction to instanton Floer theory and then discuss the surgery exact triangle for three manifolds in this context, due to Floer.
While the original proof was involved, there is a substantial simplification possible through an algebraic lemma due to Ozsvath-Szabo. I will give an exposition of this latter proof (due to Scaduto) which utilises this algebraic lemma.
