Bogomolny monopoles appear as the dimensional reduction of instantons to 3-manifolds. The moduli spaces of monopoles on R^3 are ALF hyperkahler manifolds, which have been extensively studied, originating from the works of Atiyah and Hitchin. In this talk, we will discuss monopoles on 3-manifolds and their generalizations to other dimensions, especially on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Moreover, following a conjecture of Donaldson and Segal, we will see how moduli spaces of monopoles on Calabi-Yau 3-folds are related to special Lagrangians in these manifolds.
