Affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties show up in the description of the special fibers of models of Shimura varieties, as parameter spaces for the objects within a given p-isogeny class. Their geometric points embed in Bruhat-Tits building. I'll explain how the metric geometry on the latter reflects various aspects of the algebraic geometry of ADLV's and their Bruhat-Tits stratas.
