I will present recent results concerning examples of loss of regularity for solutions to linear transport equations with advecting field in Sobolev spaces below the Lipscitz class. I will discuss how this loss is generic and can be made instantaneous and total (that is, there exists smooth initial data for which the solution leaves instantaneously any Sobolev space of positive order).
