Equipartition of energy is a concept widely used in mathematical physics. It holds for many pde equations. However Lord Rayleigh in 1911 showed, on the approximate solution constructed by Stokes, that the equipartition does not hold for water-waves. We shall show here that, introducing a modified energy, we recover the equipartition. (joint work with T. Alazard).
