CMC Cauchy surfaces, timelike lines and the Bartnik splitting conjecture

Abstract/Media

Zoom List

In the 80's S.-T. Yau posed the problem of establishing the`rigidity' of the Hawking-Penrose singularity theorems. The Bartnik Splitting Conjecture is a concrete formulation of this problem in the class of cosmological (spatially closed) spacetimes.  In this talk we discuss the background and history of the conjecture, as well as some partial solutions and recent developments  in work with Eric Ling.
