Abstract/Media

The first four sessions focus on "Academic Job Applications from A to Z," covering best practices for writing cover letters, research statements, and other application materials, as well as job interviews. We aim to make these sessions interactive, providing participants with feedback and opportunities to practice their skills.

On Wednesday March 5th, we will work on our own academic application documents in groups. We invite people to share their cover letters, CVs, and statements by Monday March 3 at noon. It will be a great opportunity to get constructive feedback on our application profiles. Hence if you wish, please prepare (a selection of) the aforementioned documents and send them to Ji (jzeng@ucsd.edu).

During this session, we will have a short discussion on how to give feedback in an effective yet proper way. Then we will form groups of 3 participants who will give feedback on each other’s documents (groups will get access to their documents from March 4). Finally, we have a joint reflection on our best-learned practices on how to prepare academic application documents as well as how to give/receive feedback.
