The stability of plasmas is a challenging topic. We will talk about a control problem for plasmas living in a uniform external magnetic field. Linear analysis for any equilibrium is investigated through the Laplace-Fourier transform approach. Moreover, the Penrose condition, which characterizes the stability of equilibrium, is derived for Bernstein modes and verified numerically. Based on the linear analysis, a general control strategy is introduced, and we will present examples for a specific choice of electric field that recovers the free-streaming solution, including Gaussian equilibria and Dory-Guest-Harris instability. This is based on a joint work with Rogerio Jorge, Qin Li, and Yukun Yue: https://arxiv.org/abs/2509.07988.
