On Fusion 2-Categories

As one of the main protagonists of quantum algebra, fusion categories have applications ranging from representation theory, over analysis to quantum topology. In this talk, I will discuss their categorification to `fusion 2-categories’ — including appropriate 2-categorical notions of `2-idempotent completeness‘ and ‚semi-simplicity‘. If time permits, I will discuss their role as a natural target for 4-dimensional topological field theories, and their place in a hierarchy of notions of `categorified finite-dimensional linear algebra’.
