Arithmetic Derivatives And \Emph{Abc}

Abstract/Media

In this talk I'll sketch a proof that certain arithmetic derivatives are small if and only if the \emph{abc} conjecture holds. An unconditional non-trivial bound for the size of these arithmetic derivatives can be deduced from Siegel's lemma, and any power-saving improvement on this bound yields a version of the \emph{abc} conjecture.
