Inspired by the pioneering work of Darmon, Nekovar and Scholl, my collaborators and I recently proposed, and gave evidence for, a conjectural construction of determinants of global points for higher rank elliptic curves. Our construction is p-adic, cohomological, and unfortunately lacking a satisfying geometric interpretation.

In this talk I will draw some analogies between p-adic and Archimedean uniformizations of quaternionic Shimura varieties suggesting a way towards a geometric construction of plectic Heegner points.
