Level raising of modular forms can be employed (following Bertolini-Darmon) to bound above the size of Selmer groups of elliptic curves. After recalling this, I will describe how level raising can be used instead to produce generators of Selmer groups. Finally, I will mention an application to the visibility of Tate-Shafarevich classes.
