The purposes of this Section shall be to promote and conserve interest in mathematics, to provide meetings for the presentation and discussion of papers, to furnish an opportunity for fellowship to teachers of mathematics, and to carry out in this region any other purposes of the national organization. The featured speakers are Robert Bryant (The idea of Holonomy), David Bressoud - MAA President Elect (The Story of the Alternating Sign Matrix Conjecture), Frank Farris - Editor Mathematics Magazine (A window to the 5th dimension), Kevin McCurley - Google Research (Information Modeling with Graphs), and Helene Barcelo - MSRI (Subspace Arrangements from a Combinatorial point of view). There will also be a student poster session, a luncheon, and plenty of time for catching up with old friends and colleagues. For more details check out our website at Mathematical Association of America The meeting will be a great opportunity to learn about a variety of informative and entertaining areas of mathematics as well as providing the opportunity to network with other students and professors. In addition student presenters will receive complimentary registration and Saturday luncheon, plus a free one-year membership to the MAA or (to those who are already members) a free book. If you would like to participate and you have any questions at all (e.g. whether your idea is appropriate for presentation, what size font to use on your poster, or where to get the best burger in Berkeley), please don't hesitate to contact Julie Glass, the poster coordinator at the address below. Participants are highly encouraged to have an email address, possibly through a faculty mentor, where they can be contacted. Please submit abstracts (2-5 sentences) that include the title of your poster, your name, institution and faculty advisor/sponsor to Dr. Glass by Friday, February 20th, 2009 (include the name of your faculty advisor if applicable).
