Avoiding Local Parametrix Problems in Riemann-Hilbert Theory

Local parametrix problems are ubiquitous in Riemann-Hilbert problems. Inthis talk I will present a technique that allows one to avoid them, provided certain a priori estimates are known. I will demonstrate this technique on the example of Plancherel-Rotach (i.e. large degree) asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials on a finite interval.
