We introduce a simple class of rational maps, those determined by adding a pole to a post-critically finite polynomial. For example, the family of singular perturbation of the monomial z^n adds a pole of order m at the origin: f_c(z)=z^n+c/z^m. We aim to import what we know about polynomials in order to learn about these rational maps. Along the way, we will meet some maps with simple combinatoric whose Julia sets have interesting topology, like gaskets, carpets and Cantor curves.

This seminar is for postdocs and PhD students, and we kindly ask faculty not to attend.
