In this talk, we shall give a survey of surgical techniques in complex dynamics and see several examples of both topological and quasiconformal surgeries to produce one dynamical system from another. Our examples will address the following very general questions:
1. Given a map f satisfying property X (represented by a finite amount of data), can we surgically modify f into a different map g satisfying the same property X? For example, property X could be a finite critical portrait, or a periodic cycle with a specified multiplier.
2. How do we construct entire functions with a good control on the singular values as well as geometry?
This seminar is for postdocs and PhD students, and we kindly ask faculty not to attend.
