Roughly put, for polynomials, if there is an expanding metric in a neighborhood of the Julia set, the polynomial is hyperbolic and we can use this metric to deduce local connectivity of the Julia set. The situation is not quite as simple and elegant in the transcendental setting. We investigate (through instructive examples) what modifications we should make so that hyperbolicity implies locally connectivity in both the entire and meromorphic setting.
