We discuss the escaping set of an entire function with a bounded set of singular values. In “good cases”, this escaping set is organized in the form of curves that we call “dynamic rays” (or “hairs”). In the other, “interesting cases”, the topology of the escaping set is more complicated; this leads to “dreadlocks”. While these are topologically more involved, for “practical purposes” they should have similar properties. Much of this talk is based on a joint paper with Günter Rottenfußer, Johannes Rückert, and Lasse Rempe; but I would like encourage discussions on further work, especially turning dreadlocks into useful and usable objects.
