Singular Sol and Hyperbolic Structures on Fibered 3-Manifolds
Thurston showed that the mapping torus M of a pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism has a hyperbolic structure. It also has a natural singular Sol structure coming from its suspension flow and the invariant measured foliations of the homeomorphism. We will analyze the question of when the Sol structure can be deformed to a hyperbolic cone structure with singularities along the singular orbits. This is particularly subtle when the first Betti number of M is greater than one.
