I will describe a construction of taut foliations that is a hybrid of a construction of Charles Delman and a construction of David Gabai. I will discuss when this construction is known to apply, and the difficulties we encountered in applying this construction more generally, including thus far broken dreams. This is joint work with Charles Delman.
