Festival unites math and the arts
Mathematics and the arts come together at the free two-day MoSAIC Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4 at Berkeley City College, 2050 Center St. The festival will feature hands-on workshops, lectures, a mathematical art exhibit and short films geared for high school age and older.
MoSAIC (Mathematics of Science, Art, Industry, Culture) is a joint venture of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute and the Bridges Organization. Festival speakers will include textile museum researcher Carol Bier, Stony Brook University research professor and sculptor George Hart, "mathemusician" Vi Hart, MIT-trained artist Andrea Hawksley, internationally known origami expert Chris Palmer and math professor and Math Dance co-director Karl Schaffer.
