Arithmetic Field Theories And Arithmetic Invariants

Abstract

There have in recent years been a number results in number theory and arithmetic geometry suggesting the possibility of applying the ideas of physics, (topological) quantum field theory in particular, to difficult arithmetic questions and theories. This talk will give a brief indication of these ideas and suggest avenues for research.
