COMD Stony Brook + MSRI Seminar Series: The Asymptotic Theory Of Extremal Length

Abstract/Media

To participate in this seminar, please register HERE.

I will describe a brief history of the “near degenerate regime” of limits of rescaled (reciprocals of) extremal length, including  Thurston’s characterization of postcritically finite maps, the a priori bounds for iterated bounded primitive renormalization, and the covering lemma. We will then talk about how these methods may be used to prove that hyperbolic components with Sierpinski carpet Julia set are precompact.
