Description
The soul of Combinatorial Representation Theory (CRT) lies in the interplay between combinatorics and various branches of mathematics. Combinatorial methods are applied to solve problems in representation theory, Lie theory, geometry, and mathematical physics and, in symbiosis, deep combinatorial problems also arise from these areas. The goal of the Introductory Workshop is to survey current and recent developments in the field. The talks will focus on tableaux, reflection groups, finite groups, geometry and mathematical physics in the realm of Combinatorial Representation Theory. Three Mini Courses will be given during the week. The tentative titles are: Michel Broue, "Complex reflection groups in representations of finite reflective groups" Andrei Okounkov, "Characters of symmetric groups" Arun Ram, "Combinatorics of Lie type" In addition, the postdoctoral fellows of the program will give us an introduction to their research area: Sami Assaf, "Applications of dual equivalence graphs" Ghislain Fourier, "Finite dimensional modules for current and loop algebras" Syu Kato, "Geometric representation theory of affine Hecke algebras" Kevin Purbhoo, "The Horn inequalities and their generalizations" Lauren Williams, tba There will also be opportunities for other members of the program to very briefly introduce themselves mathematically! Accommodations: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Rose Garden Inn. Reservations may be made by calling 1-800-992-9005 OR directly on their website. Click on Corporate at the bottom of the screen and when prompted enter code MATH (this code is not case sensitive). By using this code a new calendar will appear and will show MSRI rate on all room types available. The following Group Code should be entered in the "Comment" field when booking through our Website. Group Code = CGMS55 . The cut-off date for reservations is January 6, 2008. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Durant. Please mention the workshop name and reference the following code when making reservations via phone, fax or e-mail: EP0000. The cut-off date for reservations is December 21, 2007.
