AWM launches a New Series of Biennial Research Symposia
AWM Research Symposium 2013 will be held at Santa Clara University March 16 -17, 2013. The symposium, the initial event in the series, will showcase the research of women in the mathematical professions. It will feature three plenary talks, special sessions on a broad range of research in pure and applied mathematics, poster sessions for graduate students and recent PhDs, and a panel discussion of the "imposter syndrome." Join us next spring on the Santa Clara University campus.
Partial reimbursement for expenses may be available. To be considered for funding, please register above.
Attention!
There were some technical issues with the registration process for the last 10 days of January. We apologize for any inconvenience this has created. Please check the participant list to make sure you were registered. If you are not listed there, please try to re-register. The issue has been resolved at this time.
Plenary Speakers:
Inez Fung, UC Berkeley
Maryam Mirzakhani, Stanford University
Lauren Williams, UC Berkeley
Special Sessions:
Algebraic Combinatorics (Hélène Barcelo, Susanna Fishel, Kelli Talaska)
Analysis of PDEs in Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics (Evelyn Lunasin and Anna Mazzucato)
Commutative Algebra (Louiza Fouli and Claudia Polini)
Climate – Modeling (Inez Fung and Mary Lou Zeeman)
Groups and Geometry (Alexandra Pettet and Jing Tao)
Harmonic Analysis and Its Applications (Malabika Pramanik)
Low-dimensional Topology (Shelly Harvey and Ina Petkova)
Mathematics for Human Physiology and Disease (Victoria Booth and Trachette Jackson)
Model Theory: Special Session in Honor of Carol Wood (Alice Medvedev and Lynn Scow)
Numerical Methods for PDEs (Fengyan Li and Yingda Cheng)
Random Matrix Theory and Related Fields (Ioana Dumitriu)
Poster Session:
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) invites early-career women to give a poster presentation.
Format: 20-25 women will be selected to present a poster. AWM has applied for funding and hopes to be able to offer partial support for expenses for poster presenters.
Eligibility: Applications are welcome from women who have received their PhDs within approximately the last three years and from graduate students who have made substantial progress on their doctoral thesis.
Application deadline: February 1, 2013
Applications should be submitted via MathPrograms.org.

Contributed Paper Sessions:
Participants interested in giving a contributed talk should submit the title of the talk, the speaker's name and affiliation, and a brief abstract (at most 1 or 2 paragraphs) via MathPrograms.Org by February 1, 2013. Decisions on applications are expected to be made no later than February 8, 2013. More information
Note for Speakers:
The projectors are not set up for HDMI and all MacBook users need to bring their own adapters. The rooms, however, have computers in which USB drives can be used to pull up presentations.
Registration Fee:
A $30 registration fee will be payable on site by cash or check (no credit cards will be accepted). There is no registration fee for AWM members. Tickets for the Saturday evening banquet may also be purchased on site by cash or check. The cost of the banquet will be posted on this site in early 2013.
Sponsors: AWM, AIM, MSRI, ICERM, Santa Clara University Mathematics Department, Microsoft Research (MSR), NSF, NSA
