    The general public and SLMath visitors are welcome to join us to celebrate the opening of the art exhibit featuring Berkeley's Lynn Glaser on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 5:30-7:30pm at the 2nd floor commons room and deck. This event is free and open to the public, with live music by flamenco guitarist Daniel Fríes and refreshments. Art is on display throughout the 2nd floor of the building and in the 1st floor atrium.

  2. Special Events [NSF Math Institutes] Blackwell-Tapia Conference 2024 (Providence, RI)

    The NSF Mathematical Sciences Institutes Diversity Committee hosts the 2024 Blackwell-Tapia Conference and Award Ceremony. The Blackwell-Tapia Prize recognizes a mathematical scientist who has made outstanding contributions to research in their field of expertise and served as a role model for mathematical scientists and students from underrepresented groups, or has contributed in significant ways to addressing the underrepresentation of minorities in math. The 2024 recipient of the Blackwell-Tapia Prize is Dr. Illya Hicks, Professor and Department Chair of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research at Rice University.

    SLMath (formerly MSRI) invites current and prospective donors to an informal reception with appetizers & drinks. Directors Tatiana Toro and Hélène Barcelo will speak about upcoming events and programs, as well as the impact of private support on the Institute. SLMath thanks and acknowledges mathematicians who support the Institute's programs and workshops by joining our giving societies.

  5. Scientific (Organizational Outreach) International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026 (Philadelphia, PA)

    The International Congress of Mathematicians will be held July 23-30, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The congress coincides with 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the 40th anniversary of the last ICM was held in the United States.

    The ICM offers a rare opportunity to meet some of the world's leading mathematicians and be inspired by the vast diversity of today’s mathematics. The official website of the Congress is www.icm2026.org. Further information regarding ICM 2026 will be made available in due course; registration will open in January 2025.
